Q: Is there a dress code for the wedding?
A: Preference would be to dress as either Elvis Presley or Marilyn Monroe. But you can also just be beachy casual (if you really have to).
Q: Are there other places to stay?
A: Yes there are. Pemuteran has some very nice tasteful places, from el cheapo to European-level posh. Sorry, there is no Disney-style accommodation. See the Accommodation section for more info.
Q: I don’t know much about Bali, or Indonesia, where can I find more info?
A: Link here: Bali or Indonesia. Also, check the different sections on this website, About Bali & Pemuteran. If you are interested in more detail, get a Lonely Planet, which contains a lot of detail on locations, things to do, accommodation, history etc. Also, TripAdvisor can be a good source, although reviews are typically very dependent on peoples experience.
Q: How safe is Bali?
A: Most people are only 4 feet tall, so they will typically be more afraid of you than you are of them, just like spiders. Plus Balinese people smile a lot, which is reflective of their positive and Buddhist personalities so, ya know…
Ok. To be serious, Bali is a very safe place to visit. The only official high risk in Bali is ‘Natural Disasters’, which is still lower than New Zealand (Canada is a different level). Pick pocketing, mugging and women traveller risk is low to pretty much non-existent, especially in northern Bali.
Q: Are there any easy mountain bike rides, or are they all ‘Meagan easy’?
A: Even Mike found them easy, and he didn’t break anything, so grow some balls!
Q: How do I get there from the airport?
A: We have a driver named Adri who we drove with when we were there and he is very safe and reliable. He is providing two options:
1 – For larger groups: A van which will cost $20USD per person. This will suit groups of four or more.
2 – For smaller groups: A private car which can take three people maximum. Cost is $70USD per car.
Please email us to arrange or email Adri direct on adriscoerpio03@gmail.com or send him a message via WhatsApp on +6281337992122 .
There is also a local version of Uber, called Grab. If you’re keen to save some money, it can be worth the effort, but you need to have data on your phone and realise they might cancel officially but still come due to local drivers’ dislike of Grab drivers.
Q: Any weird diseases around?
A: That depends on how sexually active you are. You do have to be aware of things like Zika virus etc. But no, there is no Malaria in Bali. For more information, see the ‘Health’ section in About Bali‘
Q: I never realized how handsome Mike is, you are so lucky Meagan!
A: Not a question, but thanks!
Q: Currency and changing money
A: There are ATMs at the airports and in towns, plus you can pay by credit card at most places. Don’t be a fool and try to change money in the streets, they will scam you
Q: What about bargaining? And hawkers (pushy street vendors)?
A: Yes, bargaining is the norm when buying souvenirs, taking taxis, etc, so start low. However, bargaining is not the norm at restaurants, bars or supermarkets. We do encourage you to try though, because it would be funny. As for pushy street vendors, you will only find them in the really annoying areas where all the Australians go, like Kuta and Seminyak. So that should tell you you have gone the wrong way…
Q: Why do you have such a lame website address?
A: Because Meagan wouldn’t allow Mike to use his cuddlecafe.co.nz (paid content, nsfw) website.
